10 Day Lifestyle Cleanse: Day 2

Review Previous Posts:
10 Day Lifestyle Cleanse
10 Day Lifestyle Cleanse: Day 1

Pictured is my Raw Food World order, which arrived in perfect time for this cleanse. I got three different raw cereals, and several raw snacks. Delicious.

Day 2 started at 9am with peanut butter waffles. I realize I haven't been extremely specific about the food aspect of this program, but mostly I want to eat healthy, cut the junk, and focus on detoxing, exercise, self-growth and Spirituality. Anyway, I had breakfast, then brushed my teeth, did my skin brushing while telling my body how much I loved it and took a shower. Then I headed to Coffee Girls for some fresh veggie juice and egg souffle.

The first time I went I really didn't care for it, but Trader Joe's has grown on me. Today was my best visit yet, as I was able to get 85% of my grocery shopping there, and at a considerably cheaper rate than Whole Foods. I picked up a ton of greens of all kinds; arugula, red leaf lettuce, mixed greens, spinach, romaine, endive, etc. I bought more almonds for making almond milk and several other items. Then I headed to Whole Foods for the rest. I purchased some deliciousness from their market, so I'll have some pre-made meals. I also have a recipe for a green chili, so making that this week.

I crashed when I got home (didn't sleep very well the night before) and slept until about 7:30. I got up, picked out some books, did some work on The Reinvention Project, a 30 day program for self-growth. More on that later. Then I warmed up some delicious quinoa patties and roasted root veggies from Whole Foods.

I started "Enchanted Love: The Power of Intimate Relationships" by Marianne Williamson while I ate dinner. Really enjoying it so far. So many non-fiction books are dry, but this is almost like a fairytale, beautifully written. I picked out my next set of books as well.

After dinner, I spent time writing and work on blog design, than crashed around 11:30pm.

I did some things, and not others today. Day 3 I intend to kick back, made a smoothie, do a coffee enema, oatmeal bath, lots of reading, start on my Goddess workbook and Vision Board, and meditate. Of course I'm going to eat some good stuff. I have a recipe for a kale, avocado, red pepper, tomato and something salad I'll make for lunch. I'm probably going to make my simple gluten free pasta recipe for dinner since the basil has been hanging out for awhile.

My Beautiful flowers from Trader Joe's! Goodnight! See you for Day 3.

10 Day Lifestyle Cleanse

My first two intentions for the year were 1) Make a Plan and Stick With It and 2) Get Physical. This included adding some positives to my day eliminating things that were unhealthy, and sticking with it! This week I'm going to do what I call a "lifestyle cleanse" a simple transitioning from what I'm doing now, to where I want to be. This will include healthy eating, detox, yoga, emotional and spiritual growth, etc.

Here's what a typical cleanse day might look light. I will of course be blogging each day to let you know how I'm doing and what I'm doing.

Morning:

  1. Start with a quart of MSM/Lemon water. This is good for cleansing the body, healing the skin, and clarity.
  2. Drink a glass or quart of green juice. If breakfast is needed, stick to oatmeal or raw cereals and granola. We'll be leaving out grain based cereals for this cleanse.
  3. Also, down a glass of Amazing Grasses supplement blend.
  4. Take my pills, brush teeth and FLOSS! I am terrible at this and it is incredibly important. So this is a new  habit, let's see how I do.
  5. After my email session, do my enema. This includes a simple water enema and a coffee enema.
  6. Skin Brushing session with "I love My Body Exercise". My friend Andrea came up with this one and I LOVE this idea. As you do your skin brushing, tell your body "I love you toes, I love you feet, I love you ankles, legs, knees, etc." As you go over your entire body with the brush, love it.
  7. I will alternative between showers, and detox baths. The baths will be either epsom salt baths or oatmeal baths. They are also very relaxing.
  8. Before lunch, I will sit for 15 minutes, relax, and do a Meditation exercise.
Afternoon:
  1. A simple lunch of salad and a sweet potato or something of the sort. With my new book holder I am able to read during lunch, which, as you may recall, reading is the third item on my resolutions list.
  2. Throughout the afternoon and day really, it's important to drink lots of water. I will also be drinking coconut water to keep my electrolytes up. If I get snackish, than nuts, trail mix, fruit, will all be acceptable snacks. I'll also want to sneak in another green smoothie
  3. Two hours of writing daily is goal four, so this will definitely happen in the afternoon.
  4. Gentle yoga, which, depending on how I feel will depend what I do. Most likely about 20 minutes. I have a new mat and beginners DVD (Yoga for Beginners) that will guide me.
Evening:
  1. Dinner will be something like polenta with pesto and root vegetables, Buddha bowl, gluten free pasta, beans and rice, soups, etc.
  2. This will be a time for more reading, knitting, jigsaw puzzle, contacting friends etc.
  3. A nice glass of chocolate coconut milk should fix my sweet tooth for the evening.
  4. Bedtime: prayer and visualization. I will end the night with a prayer to the Universe, and as I fall asleep, talk to my body and visualize it healing.

Sounds like a lot, but this is a LIFESTYLE. What makes it a cleanse? I will be avoiding dairy, gluten, sugar during this cleanse. After this, if I choose I can always add a little of those in, but as they are really not that important, I'd rather not. This will also complete one of my 31 Things goals, do Megan Templars cleanse. I'm not following exactly, but taking pieces and incorporating into my own.

After this I will do Sarah Wilson's "I Quit Sugar" cleanse, which should be easier once I make my lifestyle change. It's an 8 week cleanse and I will definitely be doing weekly blog updates when that starts.

What are you doing to kick off you 2012 resolutions?

2012 Intentions

It's that time of year again and I've got some fantastic Intentions set. This week I plan on getting my new Vision Board together and putting together a schedule to keep me on track. I'm really excited about some of the things I have lined up and in continuing some of my Intentions from last year. This year will be about healing and growing.

  1. Make a Plan and Stick With It. I have a plan, and I keep making plans, but then somehow I never get them fully implemented. My goal is to focus on Green Smoothies, Enemas and my Supplements, and continue to add in other aspects of my plan as I create my schedule. This will be a year of healing. I also have some cleanses planned as well.
  2. Get Physical. This is something that I struggled with last year, mostly due to my heart. And while that is still an issue, I believe that I am at a point where gentle exercise can be added. I got a new yoga mat and DVD for Christmas, and so that's where I will start.
  3. Read, read, read. You may have noticed that I joined several reading challenges this year. I used to have a book attached to my hip; I read daily, at dinner, in the evening, doctor's office's, wherever I could. Last year my brain developed a bit of a fog, and I had a hard time focusing on reading. This has improved, and I've already read one book for 2012! My goal is at least 52, a book a week, and the reading challenges will keep me motivated and give me variety.
  4. Write Daily. I will schedule daily writing sessions, whether it's working on my book, my blog, etc. I will write for at least 2 hours daily.
  5. Publish My First Book. I have 100,000 words ready to be edited and turned into a fabulous book on the early years through 2011 of my healing journey. I have purchased a great program to help me in this endevour and fully intend to have a book deal by year's end.
  6. Grow my Blog. By year's end I intend to have over 250 followers, at least 100 on Facebook, steady traffic, etc. You can help me with this by becoming a follower, retweeting posts, liking posts on Facebook and joining my Facebook community.
  7. Meditation and Visualization. These two tools are so important in healing the mind and the body. I have done visualization exercises that have shrunk tumors and healed wounds on my body. There is no excuse not to continue to do this. Meditation is a great tool for creating balance and peace.
  8. Spiritual Growth. I wish to continue on my Spirit Junkie path; I will be re-reading Gabby Bernstein's book, posting about it, and completing the exercises. I also plan on diving into a Course of Miracles, and have already discovered a weekly study group and online social network. I will incorporate prayer into my life and learn to "let go and let God". We are Spiritual beings living in a physical body, and it's time I gave some love to my ~ing.
  9. Travel. My health prevents me from doing anything too wild, but I do still want to travel. One of my 31 Things is to have a Missouri weekend, and I intend to make that happen. I also will do some weekend trips to Columbia to visit friends and am looking into possibly going out to North Carolina and spending time with my grandparents. As I heal, I will expand my possibilities.
  10. Friendships. I really want to focus on developing the friendships I have, and growing new ones. It seems like each year I have people come and go, and so working on those relationships and continuing to put myself out there and create new ones is so important. My friends are what got me through my health battle this past summer, and I want to make sure I keep them!
  11. Give up TV. My Time Warner account renews in May, and I'm seriously thinking of giving up  TV.  I only have 5 shows that I watch, 2 of which are ending this season. Anything worth watching I can either Netflix at some point or watch online. I find that TV is just a distraction and I really don't care anymore. There is so much more out there, and why spend $60 on cable per month when I can increase my Netflix and spend $10 or less.
  12. Learn to Knit. This has been on my 31 Things for awhile, and I actually took a class and never got a project started. So something at the first of the year I'm going to either retake the class or simply go to this wonderful local knitting store and get some help. I found an extremely simple scarf pattern for an easy first project, and intend to grow as a knitter. There is also a weekly Meetup group for young knitters, and I think it would simply be a great hobby.
So there you go. What will your 2012 Intentions be?

Cancer Thriver: Cortney from Green Drink Diaries

This week I had the opportunity to speak with Cortney of Green Drink Diaries. She is a holistic cancer survivor and she gave me permission to print her story. I think you'll be impressed.

How I Beat Cancer

3 months before my cancer diagnosis.
In October of 2008 I was diagnosed with Stage II Nodular Lymphocyte Predominant Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. After weeks of testing and the staging confirmed by PET/CAT scans and a bone marrow biopsy, my husband Kevin and I had to make a decision. Were we going to go with the oncologist’s recommendation of R-CHOP chemotherapy and radiation? There were so many unsettling factors. The type of Hodgkin’s I had was very rare and there were no conclusive studies on what type of conventional treatment was MOST effective. The chemotherapy that was suggested by my oncologist had many side effects, but the one I found completely unbearable was infertility.
On the same day we received my official diagnosis and were given our tour through the chemo room and the wig shop, Kevin and I came home feeling unsettled and bewildered.  While I was lost in my thoughts of whether to freeze my eggs or agree to have embryos frozen, he began research on alternative cancer treatment. Neither one of us had any experience in the alternative cancer world. He began discovering other people who felt similarly as we did. They believed there had to be another way, a better way to treat cancer. We also found several survivors who treated or were treating naturally, such as Jerry Brunetti and Kris Carr.

Over the next few weeks, packages arrived at our door on a daily basis. Kevin began to read about the reasons that conventional medicine was not always the best way to approach treating cancer. He became more and more educated on the effectiveness of alternative cancer treatment. I had difficulty having faith in his new alternative cancer philosophy. How could this “natural” treatment be so effective, but yet doctors continue to treat almost exclusively with chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery? It must be because modern American medicine was superior to diet change and supplementation? I needed to educate myself on it. I focused on a book by Bill Henderson called “Cancer Free: Your Guide to Non-Toxic Healing” and in November began the protocol he lays out in his book:
1. Beta 3-D Glucan Immune Boosting Supplement
2. Raw Organic Vegan Diet, No Meat, No Sugar, No Processed Foods, No Cooked Food
3. Budwig Protocol (Cottage Cheese/Flaxseed Oil)
4. Vitamin C/ Green Tea Supplement
5. Barley Power Supplement
6. Dr. David Williams Daily Advantage Vitamins
7. HcG Urine Test to monitor progress

After many heated arguments and tears, I had finally agreed to give alternative cancer treatment a 3 month trial period. Our next step was to find an oncologist who supported us in our journey. After leaving the first oncologist, we found a holistic M.D. at first who knew of an oncologist, Dr. Stephen Szabo who she heard was more-open minded to patients trying alternative treatments. After one visit with him he confirmed that he believed I had “time to try alternative therapies” and agreed to monitor the cancer while I continued my nutritional protocol. It was shortly after this I began to notice the cancerous lymph node in my neck drastically reducing in size, almost to the point of non-detection after only a month on my new diet.
In January of 2009, I attended the 12 day detoxification and raw foods course at the Living Foods Institute here in Atlanta. It was there I was introduced to new ways to enjoy raw foods.  I also received 7 colonics to detox my colon in order to allow proper assimilation of the cancer-fighting nutrients I was putting into my body. I did many other things to detox my body also, such as drinking Essiac Tea, reflexology, drinking Alkaline water, sweating in a dry heat sauna, and exercising on a Cellerciser rebounder. During this time I also kept my anxiety levels calm through prayer, reading biblical scripture, and reciting positive affirmations.
My January HcG Test showed improvement from my November score. I was set for another HcG test in March when I discovered I was pregnant. It was a scary and uncharted territory for us. My oncologist seemed confident and we worked together along with my OBGYN through the next few months of morning sickness and blood tests to make sure my body was handling the pregnancy well and the cancer wasn’t acting up.

Finally, on May 4th, 2009, Dr. Szabo gave us the surprising news that I was in “clinical” remission! He believed that CT/PET scans were NOT a superior way to monitor the form of cancer I had because of its indolent nature. Instead, I am monitored via bloodwork and physical examinations.  Following several months of excellent health reports, I received “clinical” remission status. I went on to have an unmedicated and natural birth to Ruby-Claire Campbell on November 19th 2009.

As of this writing in October, 2011 I remain in clinical remission. I have chosen to address my cancer through lifestyle change. This is a lifelong commitment. My diet is not as extreme as it was in the beginning, but I still stay completely away from sugar, processed foods, and conventional foods. I eat a TON of nutrient-dense, organic vegetables: a big, colorful salad and 64 ounce veggie smoothie everyday. I rarely eat meat, but when I do, it is grass fed, free-range meat or wild-caught fish. I still drink green tea, take Vitamin C, and Dr. David Williams’ vitamin supplements each day. I eat the Cottage Cheese/ Flaxseed Oil mixture at least 4 days a week.

I think there is a place for conventional medical treatment and intervention/monitoring. For my husband and I, it was a PRAYERFUL decision to approach the cancer the way we did. We believe that God gave us a fully functioning, self-healing body that when brought back to its original state can fight off the malfunctioning cell growth of any form of cancer. It will be a journey to keep the cancer away, not a destination. That is how we hope Americans will begin to look at their health care.

Cancer Thriver: Jess from The Wellness Warrior

Meet Jessica, cancer thriver. This is the first of I hope several posts talking with people who have healed, or are in the process of healing themselves through holistic methods. A little about Jess from her blog:

Just over three years ago I was diagnosed with a very aggressive, rare form of cancer called Epithelioid Sarcoma, in my left hand and arm. After having a high dose of chemo pumped through my arm following scans showed I was clear of cancer. Little did I know it would come back, not even a year after going into remission. After being told by the scary men in white coats that my only real chance of long-term survival would be to have my arm amputated at the shoulder I decided to take matters into my own hands (excuse the pun). I politely refused their offers of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation and began searching for natural, alternative cancer treatments. The way I saw it I had two choices. I could rely on the slash, poison and burn method offered to me by the medical profession and become stuck in the ‘cancer patient’ category for who knows how long, or I could take responsibility for my illness and bring my body to optimum health so that it can heal itself. For me it was an easy decision. Chemo and radiation do not have great success on the type of cancer I have, and there is no way I’m going to let them cut my arm off. Being told you have cancer is a massive shock and it is incredibly difficult at times, but it is also a huge wake up call. As tough as it is, dealing with a serious illness gives you the unique opportunity to make the most of the here and now. As someone very wise once said to me, “Cancer is a gift wrapped in a shitty package.” The only way to get through it is to keep smiling and take one day at a time.

I had the opportunity to ask Jessica some questions regarding her journey. I found her answers to be extremely insightful. I highly recommend following her journey at her blog The Wellness Warrior

1) I understand this is your second time with cancer; the first you followed the traditional methods. How did you feel when the cancer returned, and what made you decide to explore options outside of chemo? Most people don't even realize they have any, so how did you discover holistic healing?

When I found out that my cancer had returned I was upset, but part of me was expecting it. Between my two diagnosis, I had done so much research into cancer and healing and I knew that I hadn't done what was needed to really rid my body of cancer. When my doctors told me that my only options were amputation, chemo and radiation (none of which were going to cure me) I knew I had to find another way. I read books, researched on the internet, watched DVDs and spoke to other cancer survivors to try and find what would be the best plan of action for me.

2) How did you choose the Gerson therapy over everything else out there? How do you feel it is working for you?

Gerson Therapy looked like it was the hardest to follow and the most strict, but it also made the most sense to me. Plus, it had over 60 years of success stories, which made me feel comfortable. In my opinion, it is the most powerful healing modality we have available to us. I was told that I have an "incurable" disease, but will Gerson I am curing myself.

3) How did you family and friends respond to your choice to go the alternative route?

They were just as enthusiastic about it as I was. We were all in this together, we all did the research, and so we were all on the same page. It has definitely made the whole journey a lot easier.

4) Did you work with a regular Oncologist or some form of holistic doctor? How do you feel you were treated?

I haven't worked with a conventional medical team since I said "thanks, but no thanks" to their offers of amputation, chemo and radiation. They weren't very happy with the route I chose instead, which I wasn't surprised about. I now only work with my Gerson doctor in Mexico and a integrative doctor here.

5) What books would you recommend for the newly diagnosed?

Healing The Gerson Way by Charlotte Gerson
A Time To Heal by Beata Bishop
You Can Conquer Cancer by Ian Gawler

6)Any other tips for newly diagnosed?

Educate yourself. Read books, watch DVDs, get on the internet. Don't give away your power. You know your body better than anyone, and once you start researching, you will discover the best treatment plan for you. There are always more options than what your doctor will lead you to believe, and you always have more time to find them than what your doctor will tell you.

7) What is your status today? How are you feeling?

I feel great! My tumours are visibly going away and I have never felt better.

8) How are things now that you are your Mom are going through this together?

Things have been difficult financially, and we've had to adjust to the fact that we're now doing Gerson for three years instead of two, but we have so much faith in the body's ability to heal itself that everything has been pretty good. It was interesting to see the difference in our reactions from when I was first diagnosed to when Mum was. The fear and uncertainty just wasn't there this time around.

9) You have a boyfriend, did you meet before of after cancer? How does he handle all this; you have a pretty stringent schedule.

I have known my boyfriend for almost 7 years, but we have only been a couple for three years. We started dating between my two diagnoses, and the second one was about a year into our relationship. He handles it all really well. He is understanding, supportive and deserves a medal for putting up with all of my mood swings!

10) What inspired you to start blogging about your experience?

I needed something to do to keep me sane. I was no longer working, and I missed writing every day, so I started the blog as a creative outlet and also to share what I was doing with my friends and family. When other people started showing their interest in my journey, that's when I realised that there is a thirst for empowered health information.

Diary of a Gerson Person: A day (every day) in the life

Because my winding down day is so close, I wanted to share what every day of the Gerson Therapy has been like so far. This is pretty much how my days have played out for the past 18 months.
6am: My alarm wakes me up. It’s one of those retro battery operated ones with the bells on top, so it scares the crap out of me every morning. Probably not the most peaceful way to start the day, but I use it because it’s not good to sleep with a digital alarm beside your head, and also it doesn’t have a snooze function. Once I’m up I walk bleary eyed to the bathroom, wash my face and roll out my yoga mat and towels for my first coffee enema of the day. I always read something inspiring while I’m doing my enema, to get me into a good frame of mind for the day. At the moment it’s The Greatness Guide Book 2 by Robin Sharma for the second time.
6.30am: Enema done! Now it’s time for five minutes of dry body brushing before jumping in the shower. I make sure I shower before the rest of the house wakes up and starts turning on taps. If there is water running anywhere else in the house while I’m in the shower I will get scorched.
6.45am: I walk upstairs and into the meditation room for half an hour of Zen time, saying good morning and giving my little pug girl Edie a bum scratch on my way.
7.15am: Dad’s finished preparing breakfast, so I sit down at the table to a glass of fresh orange juice (juice #1) and rolled oats with raw honey, sultanas, kiwi fruit and stewed apple. Every. Single. Morning. Lucky I love oats. Even after 18 months of this, it’s still my favourite meal.
7.45am: Dad’s been busy in the kitchen all morning, so he’s already washed and laid out all of the produce for our daily juices. To say thank you, I make him a big green smoothie while he fires up the Norwalk and starts making the first green juices (juice #2) for the day for mum and I.
8am: I drink my green juice before heading down to my room/office to start work for the day. I check my emails, upload the day’s blog, prepare the newsletter, post blasts to Facebook and Twitter, and then answer whatever emails and blog comments I’ve received overnight.
9am: Go back upstairs to drink my carrot and apple juice (juice #3) and then another carrot and apple juice (juice #4). Once that’s done, it’s back down to the computer to write blog posts, write book, or speak with clients.
10am: Make and drink juice #5 – plain carrot. Then it’s time for the second enema for the day.
11am: Make and drink juice #6 – green. Once I’ve finished cleaning the juicer I help Mum prepare lunch. She does the salad, potatoes and pumpkin while I chop the veggies for the hot pot. After that we go and lie outside to soak up some vitamin D and get 15-20 minutes of sun.
12noon: Drink juice #7 – carrot and apple. Turn the TV on to watch Ellen dancing through her studio audience – my absolute favourite part of Gerson Therapy has been being able to watch The Ellen DeGeneres Show every day while we eat lunch. We sit down to Hippocrates Soup, a big plate of salad with roast pumpkin, a baked potato and some cooked veggies.
1pm: Make and drink green juice (juice #8). Go back downstairs to answer emails and do more writing.
2pm: Drink carrot juice (juice #9). Enema time again! Roll out the yoga mat for enema number three.
3pm: Make and drink another carrot juice (juice #10). Sit back in front of the computer to do more work – scold myself for allowing Facebook to suck away so much time that before I know it an hour’s gone past and I’m looking through a stranger’s photo album with absolutely no recollection of how I ended up there.
4pm: Make and drink a carrot and apple juice (juice #11). Either take Edie for a walk, do yoga or jump on the mini trampoline.
5pm: Drink another carrot and apple juice (juice #12). I usually have a client session now, so I chat to them or I do more writing, or I meditate.
6pm: Finally, last juice for the day! I make and drink a green juice (juice #13). Then it’s back downstairs, roll out the mat again and do my fourth enema for the day.
7pm: Say hello to Tallon who is now home and usually knocks on the bathroom door while I’m doing my enema (even though/because he knows I hate it). Chat to him for a bit before we are called upstairs for dinner.
7.15pm: We all sit down for family dinner around the table (facing the TV). Again we have Hippocrates Soup, a big plate of salad, a baked potato and some cooked veggies. Dad and Tallon add meat. Edie is in the background whimpering, scratching at our legs for more food, or perched at her own chair at the table.
8.30pm: After clean up is done we make peppermint teas and all go in different directions of the house. Tallon and I either watch TV or lie in bed and read. We turn all of the lights out and just have lamps and Himalayan Salt lamps on to prepare for sleep time.
10pm: I’m asleep, or willing myself to be asleep so that I get my standard eight hours.
Even though my mum is also on Gerson Therapy for her breast cancer, her days looks a little different to mine. Before she started Gerson, she was my carer and now she still manages to fit in the making of soup, boiling coffee for enemas and doing our mammoth grocery shops. Luckily my dad now stays home most mornings to help her out. I’m planning on posting a day in her life soon to give you an idea of what her role involves.
Isn't she amazing? Thank you Jessica for taking time to talk to me. Good luck on your continued healing! Check out Jessica at her site The Wellness Warrior.

My Smoothie Cleanse

This past weekend I pledged to do a Smoothie cleanse to clear out all the Thanksgivingness. And while I did drink LOTS of smoothies, up my enemas, take an oatmeal bath (wonderful!) and start skin brushing again, I found it difficult to not eat at all. So I did snack a bit and do my best to keep it healthy. I made some amazing smoothies, and plan to continue drinking 3-4 quarts daily, as I add full meals back in to my diet. You can see I have some amazing greens, fruit and superfoods that made kick ass smoothies. And while I may not have been perfect, I tested my PH this morning and AMAZING, I'm right in range, which I haven't been for awhile. So soak up your greens! Here are some of the smoothie recipes I made.

Spinach/Baby Kale/Banana/Peach/Raspberry/Strawberry
Organic Girls Super Greens Mix/Acai/Banana/Strawberry
Blueberry/flax seed/cacao
Banana/oats/almond butter/cacao/almond milk
Baby Kale/Banana/Peach/Cherries/Noni Powder/Bee Pollen
Spinach/Mango/Strawberry/Blackberry/Merlin's Herbal Blend
Organic Girl Super Greens/Cherry/Banana/Pineapple/Strawberry
Silk's Pumpkin Spice Soy Milk/Wheatgrass/Banana/Pineapple

This holiday nog is the most creamy, delectible, drink I've had. I usually don't like nog, but this stuff is to live for! Run, don't walk to your nearest Whole Foods and pick this baby up, and don't forget to get the Mint Chocolate as well.

Overall I feel great and am excited to continue to get healthy. Have fun with your smoothies; don't be afraid to experiment a bit.

Cleanse Days 5-7

After some initial rebellion and internal struggle with some of the food changes, I think I'm finally settled. Green Smoothies help tremendously. I've noticed I rarely crave sugar, and if I do I have a nice pulpy glass of orange juice. I did purchase some low sugar chocolate snacks, but haven't really needed them yet. Yesterday I went to Whole Foods and saw my favorite pimento cheese and I just stood there for two minutes, then walked on. I barely glanced at the Bothhouse farm drinks (I like the Mocha Cappuccino) and for the most part managed to make some really good shopping choices.

Coconut Based chocolate ice cream, cacao nibs and macadamia nuts, raw almonds dehydrated and seasoned with vanilla and maple, coconut ice cream bars, vegan/gluten free dark chocolate and orange bar and raw chocolate bar with superfoods. All very low sugar options and great for chocolate cravings.

 So good, I'm addicted

LOVE this cereal! Reminds me of Grape Nuts without  the crap

I started coffee enemas this week, and have done my meditations while holding the enema. You do a fresh water enema first, releasing immediately, then follow up with the coffee enema, which the goal is to hold for 15 minutes. So far I've gone anywhere from, not going to happen, to about 12 minutes so far. I think it gets easier the more you do it. Here's a great video from Jess the Wellness Warrior on doing coffee enemas:

I'm starting to see some results. I had major fatigue issues through October, and as the week has gone on I've had more and more energy. In fact, yesterday was the first time I didn't nap in who knows when. Not only did I not nap, I tried to go to bed, and ended up laying awake for an hour and getting back up! I still went to bed at a decent time, and got about 8.5 hours of sleep, which usually I sleep for about 12 hours, but I haven't need to. In fact I've had problems with boredom now that I'm not sleeping as much. Suddenly, I have all this time and I have no idea what to do with it. I cleaned off my two tables filled with mail and sorted through. I organized my bills and created a payment plan. I've watched some Hallmark Christmas movies and done some things around the house. I need  to make a list of activities. It occurred to me that I could do that puzzle from my 31 Things list, finish putting together the photo album, also from that list. Shoot, I could actually start writing! My brain was too foggy, but it's clearing up so now it the time. Also, exercise and emotional/spiritual exercises. So we'll see how it goes.

 Green Smoothie

 Vegan Protein Powder

Oatmeal with raisins, cinnamon and a dash of almond milk

Right now one of my biggest projects is finding the right supplement balance. I REALLY hate that Cellect, the mineral/vitamin powder that has like 97 things in it. It's nasty, smells nasty, and just doesn't go away. There really isn't anything else like it though; however, I believe I found an herbal remedy (that I already have some of) called Merlin's Herbal Magic Root Elixir. It has over 30 herbs in it. I will still need to take all my alphabet vitamins (A, B6, B12, B17, D3, E), and Iron. There is also something called Colustrum that is in the Cellect  and a great part of it that I can get on it's own. Plus I can start doing MSM again, Bee Pollen, and look into some other things. Some of the stuff is in pill form, but several things can be tossed into my smoothies.

So what's up for week two? Adding in exercising, which will be bouncing on the rebounder. Also, dry skin brushing and I really need to do the neti pot. I plan on thawing out the pesto I made this summer and making a delicious pesto pasta with Quinoa noodles, another soup, either corn chowder or baked potato, and trying out a Creamy Coconut Beans and Rice recipe. And of course, more green smoothies. I'll leave you with a photo of tonight's Buddha Bowl. This one has brown rice, diced potatoes, orange bell pepper, green beans, and seasoned tofu. Bowls are very easy to make. Pretty much use rice as your base, then any kind of veggie you could possibly think of, toss them together, and there you go. Delicious.

Cleansing Days 1-4

Cleansing week is starting out just so so right now. I have definitely not been perfect in the food department, or starting enemas, exercising or most of what the cleanse entails. However, I have been good about having at least one quart of green smoothie each day. And really, I have mostly been good about food, but I did have some leftovers (pasta and such) that I didn't want to waste that I ate. I made a White Bean chili that turned out good, spicy, but really good. It fits perfectly, as it is gluten free, vegan (with vegan sour cream) and of course no coffee or sugar. I did clean the kitchen up today and dishes are finishing running in the dishwasher, so as soon as that's done I'll be able to make up the coffee for the enemas. I also bought a little bathroom heater from Target. The idea of laying half naked on the floor in the cold in the winter for 30+ minutes while doing enemas, not too fun. Plus, don't you just hate having a nice steamy shower, then stepping out into the blistering cold. So I thought I little heater would be perfect. Tomorrow I'll have my coffee solution and the heater so enemas, here we go!

My goals for the weekend include:
  • Starting the coffee enemas 1-2 times daily
  • Bouncing on the trampoline in 5 minute increments and working my way up.
  • Work on getting 2 quarts of smoothie in
  • Declutter my kitchen and living room tables and go through my bills
  • Wash sheets
  • Meditate. Actually, I had been doing this with the enemas. You are supposed to hold the coffee enema for 15 minutes, so I have been doing Gabby's Spirit Junkie meditations to keep me relaxed and make it easier. I will continue to do that.
Otherwise, taking it one step at a time. Just have to work through some cravings, which amazing have more to do with pasta/pizza than chocolate. I really haven't had a lot of issues in that department. I've been drinking orange juice and that seems to take care of any possible sweet cravings.

Here is my Mom's White Bean Chili Recipe:

Ingredients:

1 onion, 1 minced garlic, 1/2 chopped yellow bell pepper (I used a whole one), 3 cans great northern beans, 2 cups veggie broth (I used water b/c veggie broth makes me vomit), 2 cans chopped green chili's, 1/2 bag frozen corn, 2/3 cup rice, 1 cup sour cream (I used vegan), both regular and white bean chili seasonings

Saute onion, garlic and yellow pepper in oil. Add rest except sour cream. Note: If you are using regular rice, add it here, if you use minute rice, wait until about 15 minutes before chili is done. Simmer for about 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and stir in sour cream. You may garnish with cilantro or cheese if you wish.

Off to make a green smoothie!

It's Cleansing Time!!

October my health schedule went nuts. I experienced a lot of fatigue, which caused me to miss some pill time, sometimes choose quick carryout foods instead of going to the grocery store and I was hit and miss on my enemas. I also took a vacation at the end of the month, which really through off any healthy eating and taking of pills/supplements. So I've planned on doing some detoxing, getting back into the swing of things. At the beginning of the year I did the 21 Day Adventure Cleanse from Kris Carr's Crazy Sexy Diet book. This is a great program and essentially what I intend to do again. It's gluten free, dairy, meat, coffee and sugar free. That may sound like a lot, but half of those things don't really affect me anyway. I intend to stick mostly to the gluten-free part, except I will likely eat Ezekiel bread, which is sprouted grains. It's easier for your body to digest, and having done this before, I know I do not have a gluten intolerance. I will however still to my quinoa pasta.and avoid other processed  wheat products. The most challenging one will be sugar, which is also the most important, however I have several ways to handle that issue.

Green smoothies are a big portion of the plan. I intent to drink at least 2 quarts a day, and do a smoothie fast on Sunday's, which will be 6-8 quarts, depending on my hunger. I did the smoothie fast just once last time and I think if I had made even just one more smoothie it would have been easier. I'm going to make sure I make plenty this time.

Otherwise there are several options such as almond butter sandwiches, Buddha bowl, gluten free pasta with pesto, falafel,  chili and soups, mashed potatoes, veggie burgers, etc. Healthy snacks include raisins, almonds, fruit, gluten free pretzels, granola bars, more smoothies, etc. I am allowed one piece of dark chocolate daily to help with cravings, however the granola bars have some chocolate, plus I plan on making raw cacao smoothies, so that should be enough.

The cleanse is not just about food. I am getting back on track with my pills and supplements. I will also be doing daily coffee enemas, skin brushing, and the occasional detox bath and neti pot. Exercise is an important part too, but seeing as I am just starting to be able to walk short distances and such, I will start slow with minimal movement on the rebounder. I really would like to get back into yoga, so at some point as my energy increases, I will add that.

Taking care of emotional and spiritual health is also important. Daily meditation, journaling, watching Brad Yates EFT videos, doing Louise Hay exercises, etc. I would like to do at least two of these things as well.

So off to the store, after cleaning out my fridge, and be ready to start Sunday!!

Detox: My Week of Cleansing

It's been over a week since I've posted, and that's because I'm gone through some MAJOR detoxing. This past weekend I basically peed and slept. I didn't really eat, or do anything else. The thing is, I felt just fine. I've been through fatigue phases before where it usually is not the greatest sign. But this was definitely my body going through some serious changes. I lost almost 15lbs of the water weight (woot!) and am nearing my regular weight. My tumors continue to drop, and my body is healing like no crazy.

Things I've learned this week:
  • Sleep is incredibly healing, especially with an awesome bed and cozy pillow
  • I missed drinking green smoothies. Somehow I got out of the habit, probably when I was hospitalized, but I restarted this week. Peach, blueberry, spinach anyone?
  • Coffee enemas are really important. My initial experience were really horrible, but after reading some tips and getting everything set up right, it went fairly smoothly this time. And while I initially didn't get a lot of releasing, that night I seriously released up a storm. This is definitely part of my daily routine now.
  • Detox baths are heavenly. Lavender essential oil, don't bathe without it. So calming.
  • Meditation is very healing, especially when going through emotional detox. Keep the MP3 player close at all times.
  • The Vibe machine is also a great way to heal, and all you do it sit there, for six minutes, and let the energy raise your frequencies.
  • It's important to also get your veggies in, but know that you can't always be perfect.
  • Going out with friends is a really important part of healing. It's important to have amazing, supportive people in your life.
  • Sadly, I also learned that some relationships, even with family members, are not always healthy. Sometimes we have to eliminate or at least temporarily break from these situations in order to protect ourselves and continue healing.
I am feeling so much better. I've been more awake, getting my clarity back, and loving that I can wear regular clothes again!! I also have gotten back to reading fiction. My mind has been so back and forth that I've had problems focusing on reading, plus with all the water weight I could NEVER get comfortable. Now, I can cozy up in my reading nook and enjoy a good book.

I plan on catching up on some blogging this week and continue to focus on healing.

My 2011 Intentions: How I'm Doing

At the beginning of the year, I created a list of intentions for 2011. We are a little more than half way through the year, so I thought it was time to check in on my goals.
  • I intend to create a daily practice of yoga, meditation and journaling
  • I intend to drink at least one Green Smoothie daily
  • I intend to do 35 minutes or more of cardio exercise at least 4 times a week, this includes dog walking, rebounder, etc.
  • I intend to focus on growing my blog this year, including number of followers, investing in SEO program, creating regular posts and updating the look
  • I intend to write and publish my first book
  • I intend to focus on my Spiritual practice, which could include taking classes at the Rime  Buddhist Center, increasing my meditation practice, Spiritual reading, prayer, and creating my own Sacred Space.
  • I intend to start the year with a 21 Day Adventure Cleanse, and do mini-cleanses throughout the year
  • I intend to continue to build and grow my friendships and schedule at least one social outing each week
  • I intend to attend a Vipssanna meditation retreat as part of my healing and Spiritual growth
  • I intend to take a vacation this year, location TBA
My Success:
I drink green smoothies almost everyday, and really enjoy it. I attending a Spiritual retreat called Spirit Junkie, started A Course in Miracles, and have been learning to be more Spiritual. I blogged about my 21 Day Adventure Cleanse experience. I have made several new friends, made an effort to get social at least once a week, and have done fun things like the Roller Derby, chit-chat at a local coffee shop, and going out to the movies. Read here about my Vipssanna Meditation experience. I took a vacation to Portland, you can read my blog post here.

In progress:
I started off the year on a good path regarding Yoga and exercise, but sadly my health has taken a turn lately and prevented me from doing so. Hopefully as I build up my strength again, I can start small by rebounding. I also have not been very diligent about journaling, although I've done it a bit, and I've only recently increased my meditation practice. I will continue to focus on these two things. I have not had the mental clarity to focus on a book, so this may roll-over to 2012, once I am healed.

Overall I think I'm on the right track. How are your 2011 Intentions going?

My Cancer Protocols Explained

This past weekend I posted a Cancer Update and listed some of the protocols I've implemented or am in the process of implementing. I realize that most of that is gibberish to the general populace, and quite frankly up until last week was for me as well. So I thought I'd break it down a bit. Feel free to ask any questions and I will link to sites with more info, for those of you also going through health issues.

MSM/Colloidal Silver
MSM is an extremely vital mineral, that in combination with the silver, kills the microbes in cancer cells. Alone, these two would not have this affect, but by taking the MSM, than waiting 15 minutes and following up with the silver, the MSM opens up a "doorway" to allow the silver to come in and kill the microbes inside the cancer cells, allowing the cell to restore to a natural healthy state.

Limu Juice
This product is a seaweed juice, with a tiny bit of fruit juice to improve the taste. The seaweed has cancer killing abilities and is a good addition to any protocol, but not necessarily a stand alone product. It's also crazy expensive. However, one of the main benefits is that it gives cancer patients more time, allowing other protocols to kick in. The taste leaves a little to be desire, but I've been throwing it back like a shot, so it's not so bad. Right now I'm taking about half the recommended dose of 16 ounces a day, but I am already feeling the affects.

The Cellect/Budwig Protocol
This protocol has six parts 1) Vegetable Juice 2) The Budwig Diet 3) Cellect 4) Coffee Enemas and other detox methods 5) Vitamin B17 6) Real Sunlight. I have been doing green smoothies, and will now do a quart of smoothie and a quart of juice daily. A member of our local community was kind enough to loan us a juicer, so we'll be starting that portion this week.

The Budwig Diet consists of a blended portion of cottage cheese and flax oil, at I 2:1 ratio, with the larger portion being the cottage cheese. While it sounds odd, this protocol was discovered by a German scientist in the 50's named Johanna Budwig and has been used successfully to heal cancer patients for many decades. The combination of the flax oil and cottage cheese causes a chemical bond that allows the cells to easily absorb this combo. It creates an electrical charge in the cells, causing cancer cells to die and strengthening healthy cells. This protocol is done twice a day, on an empty stomach, and the goal is to work up to a 6:3 ratio. Some people really love it, personally I think it has a bit of an after taste, but I'm used to chucking down pretty much anything by now.

B17, also referred to Laetrile, is found primarily in apricot pits. Back in the 70's you could purchase B17 supplements at your local health food store, but sadly people were being cured of cancer, and so the FDA, guns ablazing, came in and removed the product. Until recently people were still getting arrested for selling the seeds, but apparently that is no longer the case. However we did purchase this in pill form, and I'm attempting to determine the dosage as the bottle is in Spanish. Thank you international orders. Laetrile contains cyanide, which in this format does not harm healthy cells, but is deadly to cancer cells. This products main focus is to kill cancer cells. There are entire villages in South America where the people have never had cancer, because they eat the pits of the fruits. This is a highly effective treatment, but works best in conjunction with the Cellect, which provides the nutrients needed for the Laetrile to be absorbed by the body. The Cellect, which is a major portion of this protocol, is a powder that you take 6-8 scoops a day, and contains tons of minerals, which essentially support the immune system and aid the B17 in killing cancer cells.
Detoxing is another important portion of this protocol. Once these methods start to work, your body works like heck to release toxins. Any toxins that get stuck recycle back into your blood stream, which can open the door to viruses and cause fatigue. Currently I am doing weekly colonics, and will start doing coffee enemas twice a day. The reason for the coffee is that it not only removes debris from the rectum, but also releases toxins from the liver, making it more beneficial than a typical enema. The more toxins you can move out of your body, the better you will feel and the less work your body has to do and the faster it will heal.

The Vibe Machine
Here's some info from the website "The VIBE Machine works on five different levels by using a medium electromagnetic field. In this field, a high voltage pulse is added along with ozone. The charge is placed at a negative voltage which is being transmitted to an antenna designed to twist the magnetic field. It is then routed through noble and inert gases. These gases are in a plasma state, varying in frequencies which relate to human cellular frequencies. Plasma is found between the protons and electrons of all cells in the human body. By oscillating this plasma state, the cells are energized by the Vibe Machine. Disease is a state found in non-vibrating, non-charged, or non-energized cells. The VIBE Machine brings the vibrational level of your body back to its natural state of being. It is a technological breakthrough in enhancing the human body by helping it reach optimum vibration and energy." Interesting eh? This is $10K machine, that a wonderful community member is lending to me during my treatment. You do two five minute sessions daily.

Resonance Repatterning
This is an energy psychology technique, designed to release blockages to emotional health. I used this several years ago to clear a pattern of attracting rapists wannabe (I'm not joking, I had DAILY issues from kindergarten through my early 20's). Anyway, after ONE SESSION, I received a compliment and date offer from a NORMAL man, and shortly there after met someone who I dated for three years. I also, after 20 years of being assaulted, sexually harrassed, etc., have never had another incident. This is powerful stuff people. Here's some info from my gal Bobbie Martin's website. "Resonance Repatterning is a process designed to clear beliefs, behaviors and negative emotions that create limitations in your life.  Much of what holds you back originates from subconscious patterns (or programming) which took place early in your life.  These subconscious patterns interfere with your ability to create the happiness, abundance, fulfillment, love and health that you desire. Repatterning works by bringing these subconscious patterns into your consciousness so they can be addressed and cleared, allowing you to move easily and naturally towards a state of what we call coherence. Coherence, as defined in Resonance Repatterning, is a greater balance, aliveness, harmony, and alignment with your goals." I am using this method to keep my positive mojo going and release any feelings of wanting to die. I've had one session in the last week, and my spirits are improved tremendously. I highly recommend this for anyone with emotional blockages.

In addition to the items listed above, I will also start using a rebounder, which is a mini-trampoline, designed to move the lymphatic system. You can be as gentle or as enthused as you want. Even just standing on it and moving your feel just a little bounces you enough to move the lymph system. This is so important as the lymphatic system does not have it's own pump, so without movement it can get sluggish and cause illness. I am also taking an assortment of supplements, including Hydrocloric Acid and Digestive Enzymes (for processing my food) and Milk Thistle to support the liver, D-Ribose to support immune fuction, and B12, Vitamin D and Iron. Obviously I'm also eating a healthy diet, mostly vegan, lots of veggies and good grains, and drinking tea as often as possible.

Whew! Healing is a full time job, but I am fully dedicated. I am so much Gratitude and Love for my Supporters. Thank you for being there, and you are all invited over for Christmas Dinner, because, I WILL be here, and will be stronger than ever.

Love,

Shanna

Cancer Tips For the Newly Diagnosed

People often contact me when a loved one is diagnosed with cancer. It's such a frightful time initially, most people simple don't know what to do, and just step in line with whatever the doctor tells them. I have put together a list of tips that should be helpful to newly diagnosed patients, regardless of the method of treatment you chose to go through.

  1. Your cancer did not appear overnight. That's right, you did not wake up one day and have cancer, it's been slowly growing in your system for years, YEARS, before you or your doctor discovered it. What does this mean? It means that there is no need to rush into a treatment plan. While you might not want to wait months or years, you have a few weeks to explore your options, get multiple opinions and do some resesearch before diving into a plan. Your doctor will likely attempt to immediately drag you into the chemo room, but hold fast little cancer patient. Take some time to discover what treatment options feel right for you.
  2. Get more than one opinion. I've talked to people who had one oncologist insist they needed a port, another both chemo and raditation and another wanted to try localized chemo treatments, no port, all for the SAME cancer. It's also important to realize you will be working very closely with this person, so having an oncologist that is supportive and informative is very important. And if you are interested in incorporating holistic methods, or going holistic all the way, see a Naturopath as well. In fact, if you have more than one in your area, shop them too. They will also likely have different treatment suggestions.
  3. Read this blog entry: What Your Oncologist Never Told You About Cancer before letting them cut into you.
  4. Before starting chemotherapy, read Chris Beat Cancer's excellent blog entry: Why I Didn't Do Chemo. Great source of information.
  5. Chemo and radiation are extremely hard on the body and can make you feel very sick. Ginger is great tool for battling the nausea. You can get them as chewable tablets, buy fresh ginger or pills. Personally when my stomach is upset I think slowly chewing the pills helps a lot. I have a friend that swears by this for enduring chemo treatments. Also, chemo can cause a lot of nerve pain and damage. Acupuncture is a great tool for healing this. Set up your appointments directly after your chemo treatment, therefore you won't be spending the night in agonizing pain.
  6. Become a nutrition expert. It's so important to support your body during cancer treatments. Cancer feeds on an acidic state and loves sugar. Green smoothies are an easy way to get started. Check out Victoria Boutenko's book "Green for Life" and the "Green Smoothie Revolution." Crazy Sexy Cancer chica Kris Carr recently released a wonderful book called "Crazy Sexy Diet." This book gives you a step by step process for transforming your diet. She's a kickass cancer warrior and I highly recommend all of her books.
  7. Shake Your Booty. I realize that fatigue is a big issue for a lot of cancer patients, but the more you move your body, the better you will feel and the faster you will heal. Your lymphatic system does not have it's own pump, it only moves when you move. When it gets sluggish, toxins can re-enter the bloodstream, making you feel sick. One of the best ways for cancer patients to exercise is the rebounder. This mini-trampoline is fun and easy and 10 minutes on it is worth 30 minutes of walking. It gets the lymph pumping and for those with little energy, do 5 minutes multiple times a day. Keep that lymph moving. Yoga is also a great tool. It helps with your breathing, flexibility, stress levels, etc.
  8. Detox, Detox, Detox. It's so important to move those toxins out of your body. If they don't come out, they will just be recycled back into your bloodstream, yikes! Dry Skin Brushing, neti pot, enema's, parasite cleanse, colonics; these are all great tools. Read more about them on my blog entry: Detox Your World
  9. Not every treatment works the same on everyone. I have tried many different treatments during my cancer journey and some have had amazing results, and others not so much. However, some of the things that didn't work for me did wonders for others. Each person is different and the best way is to do something, and get frequent blood tests to see if the treatment is having an effect. Holistic remedies can be expensive, so there is no point wasting money on something that is having no affect. Also, if it's not having an affect, you definitely want to find something new that will benefit you.
  10. Read other cancer blogs. Here is a list of wonderful blogs that are written by people healing themselves from cancer: Chris Beat Cancer, Polly's Path to Health and Happiness, Crazy Sexy Life Blog, The Wellness Warrior, and Walkstrong.
  11. Take Care of Your Emotional Health. I believe that cancer is an imbalance not only of the physical body, but the emotional and spiritual as well. Plus, a lot of emotions can come up when diagnosed. Healing modalities such as EFT (emotional freedom technique), Reiki, meditation, affirmations, etc. can be a great help. Louise Hay is a wonderful woman who healed her cancer using daily affirmations. She has a great book called "You Can Heal Your Life" that I highly recommend.
  12. Read this blog post: Let Your Ladies Hang Free: Why I Stopped Wearing a Bra.
  13. Educate Yourself. Read anything and everything you can on healing. There are a ton of resources out there and more coming out all the time. I've created an Amazon module at the bottom of this post with my recommendations of cancer healing books. Check it out!
  14. Get social. People who are not going through cancer treatments are often sympathetic, but don't always understand everything we are going through. Crazy Sexy Life is a social networking site run by Kris Carr that has over 23,000 members, all healing from cancer. Many of these people are combining converntional medicines with holistic rememdies. There are many "Groovy Groups" for supporting people going through cleanses, specific cancers, people new to yoga and meditation, recipes, etc. Great resource for support.
  15. Buy This DVD. Cancer is Curable Now. An amazing look at the cancer industry and how you can heal now, without chemo or radiation. Watch it before you decide on a treatment plan.
  16. Read the incredible story of Jane VanBenthusen, who healed herself from cervical cancer after being told there was no cure. Read her story here: Jane VanBenthusen
This is really a starter guide. Dive into this, then if you have further questions or want more information, feel free to email me or leave a comment on this blog post. I wish you the best in your cancer journey. Click here to read about my personal cancer journey.
